Default Check behind with aces?

Had a somewhat interesting hand this morning (2/4 party high hand table). Unfortunately I don't have the history file but I'll try to reconstruct it as best I can!

I am dealt A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] and raise after 2 limpers in late position. All call.

Flop is Q [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]T [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. A player in early position (I've only been at the table for 2 orbits but he hasn't done anything crazy) bets into me, I raise, everone folds, he 3-bets, I cap.

Turn is the Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. EP player checks. Your play?

Yeah, I think I actually would check behind here and call a river bet unimproved. I just can't think of what you may be ahead of other than an unlikely T6 or straight draw.

This feels like a definite check for me. If he has Qs you save a big bet.

Wouldn't the decision largely rest on where this guy came in from? If he limped in first, he is probably more likely on a straight draw. Of course, you could be facing AQo or KQo that just hit trips and is trying to check raise.

I agree that you aren't hurt by forcing the villian to whiff on his check-raise and then calling down unimproved.

Unimproved doesn't this become a classic SSHE river bet that you have to call even though you "know" that you have the second best hand? At that point I think the pot is big enough that it's worth one more for the few times that villian bets the river on a bluff after showing strength early then missing his draw.

I would bet the turn in sake of not to give him a free card for his draw or to improve to a better hand to outdraw me if he is behind. Depend on the player as well if i get check raised i would safely throw my hand away.
As Slansky mentions it for this kind of situations which is true i think it's saving you from a guessing game. If u get check raised here almost always you are against trips or a better hand. There are very few players gonna try for a check raise here without better hands. By betting you r not losing a bet if u r ahead and if he is on a draw not giving him a free card but since u were gonna call a river bet even after u check behind him on turn i think it makes more sense to bet on turn after a check and throw away your hand if u get check - raised.

I think the chances that OP is behind here and gets check/raised are too great to bet. A draw doesn't seem very likely. I'd prefer to take a free card and see if I can catch my 2-4 outer here.

Bet, call a raise and check call or check the river.

Thanks for the responses all!

My thought here was that it was possible he was 3-betting putting me on overcards or going for a draw (but the draw would make a lot more sense if he was in position), but more likely that he was telling me he had at worst a ten and more likely top pair or better. Also no flush draw was available so the only realistic draws are probably KJ or (less likely) J9 and I'm not too worried about giving a free card to KJ as an ace wins me a ton of money.

When he checked the turn after I capped the flop I felt that it was quite likely he was looking to check/raise me. I really wanted to show this down against an unknown and figured I'd save 2 bets when behind and probably lose 0-1 when ahead.

I ended up checking behind and calling the river bet.

Villian flipped over QTs for the full house.
