Default JJ from the BB: A Set

party 1000PL

villian i havent seen much of, but seems a little loose, and a little aggressive, but not manically so. he is more agg. preflop and seems to be raising w/ a pretty wide range of hands, from what i have seen, or maybe is just running well.

two limpers and villian ($5k) raises to 45 from the SB, I ($1400)call w JJ, both limpers call as well.

flop ($133): J 8 9 r

he checks, I bet $130, limpers fold, villian thinks for a few seconds and calls.

turn ($390): K completing the rainbow.

he checks, i bet $325. he thinks for a long time, and raises all in.

thoughts?

Hey fsu,

His play reeks of KK to me, but I would pay off anyway because I'm a fish. Oh, and because he could have an underset. I guess. Probably not. But maybe. Oh well...

Hope it worked out.

Mike

i think this is a clear call...I don't think he's check calling this flop with KK so you only have q-10 and 7-10 to worry about....But he also may have a smaller set, AA, or maybe 10-10 for a str8 draw? Anyway, you're getting like 2-1 and have outs if you're behind. Call!

Edit: I DON'T THINK THIS DECISION IS CLOSE (based on the player description)...frankly, i'm suprised FSU posted it

I think I call and pray he doesn't have QT or KK.

A lot of this would depend on what hands you think he's capable of raising with out of the SB. Would this guy raise QTs against 3 people from the SB? Would he raise to $45 with KK then check a draw heavy flop?

If he would take that line with those two hands I think there are a lot of other hands he could do this with - KT, KJ, KK, 88, 99, TT.

If he has a straight you have ten outs to bust him.

I'd actually feel more comfortable calling if the turn brought a flush draw as I could see an aggressive player semi-bluffing an OESD and flush draw here.

Again, I call this but FWIW not being able to lay down sets is a big leak in my game.

I think youre lucky you havent doubled up quite yet lol, otherwise this could really be an awful decision hes putting you to; I know you didnt fold, but I dont know why you posted this unless he had T7 and is emulating negreanu

IMHO No reason to be TOO terrified of the straight, based on his preflop action, and if he has KK well thats one of pokers imponderable plays that you cant readily explain
