Metallica - "Turn the Page"

Out of that whole album of covers, this was the one you picked? I thought it was the worst. The cover of "Whiskey In The Jar" by Thin Lizzy blew it away, as did "Last Caress" by the Misfits (who also had a cool album covering 50's standards i.e "Great Balls of Fire.")

[/ QUOTE ]

The Thin Lizzy version is pretty good, but really the best versions are Irish folk versions IMHO. The best of which is probably the Pogues and the Dubliners when they did it together. Clancy Brothers did it well too.

White Stripes - Death Letter (Son House) and/or Jolene (Dolly Parton). Both great.

Death Letter is great.

Also, I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself.

STP's cover of Dancing Days is ok.

I guess that's techically a cover song, but really it's more of a novelty than a serious attempt at a cover.

Bob Dylan's cover of Guns 'N Roses' "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"
Any cover of Peter Gabriel's "In Your Eyes," especially Pat McGee . . . actually any Pat McGee cover.

FYC doing Suspicious Minds is one of my favorites, also Johnny Cash's version of Rusty Cage is pretty good.

I'm going to assume this is Fine Young Cannibals, but abbreviating bands that haven't already been discussed is really lame and confusing.

Save Ferris - Come on Eileen
Reel Big Fish - Take on Me

I think that might have been Sid Vicious's short-lived solo project, but it was released on The Great Rock N Roll Swindle. Also, Paul Anka wrote "My Way."
