Default Raise preflop / flop Check ?

Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em

Typical Party 15/30, the blinds are the loosest/fishy players at the table.

Preflop: Hero is UTG with T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
Hero raises, MP calls, Button calls, SB calls, BB calls.

Flop: (10 SB) A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 3[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB checks, Hero checks, MP checks, Button checks.

Turn: (5 BB) 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players)
SB checks, BB bets, Hero raises, MP folds, Button folds, SB folds, BB calls.

The rest of the hand played itself, so not important. What do you think of the flop check and turn raise? Standard?

Why give free card on flop?

With 4 opponents and me in middle position it seemed like there was a decent chance I was behind. A bet won't get a better hand to fold (Ax), but a check might get a worse hand to bet. Depending on the number of players that call/fold I could proceed accordingly.

A check also lets hands like KQ/KJ/QJ draw out on you for free when they would have likely folded the flop.

Bet the flop. Fold if raised. Bet the turn if checked to. Fold if raised.

If you had KK, or even QQ, a flop check wouldn't be bad.

Provided that all the players checked to you, I would have bet the flop and determine the course of action from there.

Having checked the flop gives too free cards and chances for other players to catch up.

I agree. That's why I posted this hand, when playing it, I thought it very likely someone had an Ace, but with my vulnerable hand, I think I have to bet.

Default Results

I caught a Ten on the river and bet and my lone opponent folded.

Betting is so much better than checking when nobody has an ace that you absolutely have to do it.
