Drawing to a flush, making a pair
Party 3/6 game. A little more aggressive than typical. 4 limpers to me in the small blind, with A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 2 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] and I complete, big blind checks. 6 see the flop for 6 small bets.
Flop is [ 5d, Kd, 3s ] I bet, big blind calls, utg raises, folded back to me, I call and big blind calls. Turn is [ Ts ] I check, Big Blind comes alive and bets, utg calls, I call. River is [ Ac ] I check, Big Blind bets, utg calls, I call. What do you think of my play? Should I have reraised on the flop? Should I have bet or raised on the river? Results and Comments to follow. |

Re: Drawing to a flush, making a pair
Hey Ace very cutting edge post.
Should I have reraised on the flop? Why? You won't knock out anyone with a king. You will build a nice pot for when you hit, however from your position I would not have. I check, Big Blind comes alive and bets, utg calls, I call. He either hit his 2 pair Kings and 10's or picked up a monster draw with JQ spades. Most likely K 10. You might gain more if you check call. I think you played the hand well. Michael |

Re: Results / Comments
Results: Big Blind has 85 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] ?! and picked up a flush draw on the turn to go with his pair, and was betting that, UTG had KJo, so my Aces were good.
I thought the decisions on the flop and river were interesting. On the flop, if I knew that UTG was going to bet I would have went for the check/raise. It's likely someone has a King, so probably the check/raise was the better play. I wanted to trap as many players as I could have for 2 bets, but I didn't want to drive players out. That's also why I didn't 3-bet the flop, UTG wasn't going to fold, so I thought I would keep the Big Blind in the hand and hope to get a call from the BB on the turn and maybe river. With as many as 15 outs, I considered reraising. On the river, I thought it likely someone would bet if I checked. Also, I thought maybe the Big Blind had made 2 pair on the turn or flop and would raise my bet. So I went with the check/call. |

[ QUOTE ]
Should I have reraised on the flop? Why? [/ QUOTE ] What about a check/raise on the flop? I think that was probably the play. It's likely someone has a King and it's more likely a King will bet than raise. I'd like to trap as many people for 2 bets as I can. I think I miss some check/raise oppurtunities because I like to bet (be aggressive), and goshdamnit I just don't trust those passive fish to bet. |

Re: Results / Comments
Ace,
A check raise on the flop would get you a free card for the turn. Once you check the turn, nobody will usually bet again because nobody likes to get check raised twice on the same hand. I rarely use a check raise semi-bluff, however the idea does have merit. Michael |

Re: Drawing to a flush, making a pair
Didja notice I was in position number 1? Also, there was no preflop raise on this hand.
