Default Check-fold top set on the turn

Two pair doesn't play the turn like this. The only thing I'm beating is a flush draw that elects to bluff the turn on my weakness (a very strong play I would add). No immediate+implied odds to fill up.

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) FTR converter on zerodivide.cx

Button ($372)
SB ($595.10)
BB ($422)
UTG ($696.70)
MP ($326.40)
Hero ($794.75)

Preflop: Hero is CO with 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $2.
UTG raises to $20, 1 fold, Hero calls $20, Button calls $20, 2 folds.

Flop: ($66) 7[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $50, Button calls $50, UTG folds.

Turn: ($166) 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 players)
Hero checks, Button bets $200, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $366

youre also beating 66 77 88 but yes, probably good fold. With deeper stacks you can call for the boat

ouch.

I probably play it the same....although i'd be more worried about a 5 or 10 falling than the 8...as if he has the 8 he's got an oesd on that flop and is more likely to call than someone with a 10. I might have considered leading that turn.

stats?

i'd have bet the turn. it's possible (likely even) that you're ahead here. even if he has a 5, he has to be worried about a T. if he has a T, he may slow play and just call. all other two-pair/set/heart draws will call your turn bet giving you value.

a $100 bet won't necessarily pot stick you. i'm saying make a value bet and play some poker. why do you assume you're beat?

So when you say "play some poker", you really mean put some money in the pot so that when he comes over the top of you, and you can't call with proper odds you can fold and feel good about it.

I think a turn bet is terrible. He moves in on you with a straight, and often times he won't bomb you when you check as he did here. You can call profitably with immediate+implied odds.

What is villain calling with after the $50 flop bet? 10's, 810, or some big draw like A [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]10 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]?

Playing the set so weak allowed you to get muscled out of the pot, but you make a great point that you won't normally face such heavy pressure on the turn after you check and will normally get odds to fill up.

I don't play at stakes this high online, only live, and it plays much differently than these games. You should consider cross posting this thread in the MHNL if you haven't done so already.
