Rabbit Hunting

The only reason one would disallow rabbit hunting is that it slows down the game. Generally, slowing down the game play is considered to be bad etiquette.

I play at a club and at the casino. At the casino, they don't allow it, at the club, they do.

It drives me nuts, because it wastes time (which I don't like to do at a poker table, unless it's a B.S. game with some buddies).

Hmm... some interesting points here so far:

-wastes time
-encourages bad players to chase draws

and your "interesting hand" line is kinda neat.

My spin on the "interesting hand" line, is that I don't f-king care about the cards that are to come, but if a guy wants to show his hand, it might be worth letting him rabbit hunt (only in hu situations). [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Here's an idea:

I was at a casino recently that allowed rabbit hunting. One player did so a few times and after each, flipped the dealer a small tip.

If effect the person was making a token payment for the privilege of holding up the game a bit.

Home game -- if no one cares, obviously allow it. If someone does care, how about a small charge -- (say whatever the minimum chip you're playing with). The charge can either go into the next pot, or can to towards the Beer and Pizza fund.

In my old home game, we tried to institute a rule that in order to go hunting, you had to show your cards. There seemed to be a lot less rabbit-hunting after that.

One time I was in a home game where rabbit hunting is acceptable within reason. I just took down a rather large pot with a big bet that caused villain to reluctantly fold after the turn on a draw-heavy board.

As I was raking the chips in my direction, with my best attempt at a [censored]-eating grin slightly in the direction of the steaming villain, I asked the dealer, "Hey, could I see the river card?"
