Default Other games/Time off = Imrovement?

Hey all,

After a solid year and a half of online poker and about a year of it at NLHE, I found some juicy omaha tables 2-3 months ago and have been there since then.

Then this last week, after playing little to no NLHE for those said 2+ months I came back to the game.

And I feel that as a result of playing Omaha and the adjustments that I made... I came back as a better player.

I am NOT trying to say that I won a lot this week. I did ok, but I am not talking results oriented here. I am strictly talking about the benefits of (a) some time away from the game and (b) the benefits of playing a different game and the styles that you learn to play it -- then crossing them over back to HE.

I feel that I see the game much better, can mix up my play better and have much better reads on players as well. I am not sure if it was the time off, or the skills I learned in Omaha that I am applying to HE.

That is why I am asking you. Do you feel that there are benenfits to (a) time off (not just a week or two) and are there benefits to (b) learning a new game.

Ive heard from a lot of B&M guys that learning PLO high was the besst thing they ever did for their holdem game and their bankroll. i should probably do that, some of the PLO game i see are insane W/R to EV mistakes.

One thing that PLO and PLO8 really help with is not overplaying one pair hands, because their value really drops.

I always hate that trips are better than sets in omaha.

Absolutely. Time off keeps the game fresh and, when you come back to it, you often are able to see ruts you'd been in that were not conducive to your game (that you might not even have been aware of) and you can also see how to get out of them. Playing other games gives you another perspective on core poker concepts. Even just playing limit for a while can improve one's big bet game (and vice versa).

Stud serves this purpose for me, the slower pace of the game allows me to really think things through.

As opposed to other games, do you guys think tourney play will improve or degrade your cash game skills?

tourney play makes you dumb, lowers your sperm count and makes you unable to use opposable digits.

And yet in my opinion it's much more enjoyable.

Oh well, who needs to grab on to things anyway.
