I imagine you could profitably run a site with 1/4 the rake or less, especially if you get massive volume like Party.
I imagine you're wrong.

I was with you till this last point.

If Party dropped the rake to 25 cents/hand ... they'd still make an ungodly amount of money.

Sucks to kill a good post with an absurd parting shot.

amazing low??

I dont have a few million laying around to:

write the software
hire support staff
Get the contract internet connection...T3 atleast
Hardware is going to be high...mirrored servers and such
Getting a customer base....lots of ads and such.

I am sure I missed a lot, but low entry...i think not. If the customer base was easy to get, then I would say it was low...but it wouldnt be.

So if you played at a site with no rake, you'd probably be complaining that they don't offer any bonuses right?

Also, zerorake (a site that charged a low monthly fee), tried this and failed miserably. The fish/casual players don't care about the rake (the rake was the least of my concerns when I first started out -- I had much bigger leaks to fix first).

Compare this to MMORPGs that cost $12.95/month. On top of what a poker site needs they need a staff of a few hundred programmers, artists and content designers working for 2-3 years...

When you provide a forum that allows people to make money you can generally get away by charging those who profit a pretty high percentage and they will pay it if they are able to continue profiting from the provided service.
