Default Monitor is too dark- something is wrong HELP

So I go to boot up my laptop and the screen is incredibly dark. So dark that I have to tilt it at an extreme angle just to barely be able to see anything. When I open and close the lid, it flickers bright for a milisecond but then goes back to darkness. HELP

thx

What type of laptop is it? I know my dell has a function key for the screen brightness. Does yours have one? What is the battery power at? Have you tried messing with the display settings in control panel? What about an updated driver for the video card on your laptop?

Most importantly, does it have a warranty?

alienware. Tried Function+F9 for brightness, no go. 100% AC power. Display control panel has nothing. I don't think there's an update I missed.

Maybe the backlight thing is out?

I would give alienware tech support a call and ask them WTF is wrong with your box.
