Default sore muscles

So I played some hoops the other night for the first time in forever, and now my legs are really killing me.

How long should I wait before playing/running again?

You are actually better off doing some mild stretching/exercise about 24 hours after.

Keep it about 1/4 the intensity of the original workout. This will reduce your long term soreness immensely.

You could go again right now. If you were doing squats it would be different. Most of the pain is just exhaustion not micro-tearing.

I'd go ahead and play if you want. Let your body tell you whether to continue. You should loosen up after a couple minutes and have less pain. If you don't loosen up or the pain gets worse I'd stretch and hydrate and wait a day or two before trying again.
