When I heard this this morning I was soooo happy. Now the Phillies can win the NL East.

Gotta be a joke right?

I think Mazzone has been very overrated. He's a good pitching coach - maybe very good, but I don't think he is the miracle worker people claim him to be. The Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz trio was going to great no matter who the pitching coach was. And since that era ended a few years ago, the strting pitching has not been at the same level. Look at this year - how does a pitching genius not have more than 1 arm in the bullpen that the manger can trust. That pen was probably the worst in playoff history. And I don't recall any of the Big 3 really talking about how Mazzone helped them out.

There are a lot of good pitching staffs around baseball - look at starting rotations of the 2 WS teams. Are there pitching coaches also geniuses as well?

I don't see the Braves taking a major hit with this move at all.

Wow. Baltimore's going to very competitive next year, and the Braves, without Mazzone, might actually lose the NL East.

As a Jays fan I am not happy that Baltimore is getting better.
