Default Changing careers...I think!

Well, I think I may be going back to school very soon. I have a B.S. in Aeronautical Science, a Commercial Pilot certificate, and a Flight Instructor certificate to go with that. But, aviation right now for pilots sucks, and probably will for a long time.

So, instead of being responsible for 200 people at once, I'm going to be responsible for 2,000! Yep, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to go back to school to become an Air Traffic Controller. It's a weird step for me, but hey, sometimes you just have to roll with it.

Anyways, there's no point to this, and I doubt anyone really cares. Just wish me luck.

Oh yeah? Are you planning on going to a university for flight training, or are you just doing your certificates/ratings at an FBO?

There ARE still jobs for pilots out there still, so don't sweat it too much. The job security once you get that job is the real issue. One day you're flying a CRJ, the next you're on indefinite furlough. I don't mean to rain on your parade or anything, but if you are planning on getting into this career, you better be ready to make some sacrifices for it. The days of the airline captain making $200,000/year are over. Expect to make <$30,000/year for the first few years.

Anyways, just do your research, and have a backup plan if things go sour. Personally, I love to fly, but that's not a good enough reason for me to stay in this business.

Good luck to you.

Very nice!

It's weird but of the two bars I go to, one has a bartender that used to be an air traffic controller but burned out. The other has a bartender that just left to go to ATC school.
