ok. i'll stay away from buying that one. Is mesh the problem or is it just the structure of the chair?

I dislike mesh backed chairs because every one that I have sat in lacks lumbar support. They are terribly uncomfortable for me and any benefit of the air circulation that is achieved from the mesh is moot when you cannot stand up straight afterward. I would spend the money on a nice leather chair, it will probably be more comfortable and better for you. I also recommend going to a store that has them set up instead of ordering off the internet, sitting in the chair before buying helps, especially if you are really tall or really short.

I've never seen one of these for less than $500 unless it's used and/or the barebones base model.

It's an office star ergonomic 2 to 1 tilt synhcro. That should be enough to start your search. I found that one off e-bay, but i'm still looking for the best one ... all my ebay bids our being outbid.
