Re: New car for the wife.

go for it! i think land rover is dead last in consumer reports' reliability ratings and mercedes is still doing terribly as well. [/ QUOTE ] i have a land rover...and its my 2nd car for a reason...its HORRID for regular every day use. I bought it not realizing this...and was then like WTF. I get like 8mpg on it in most places, it has NO pick up...were talking ZERO (mainly b/c of the steel reinfoced bottom im sure), on the highway i feel like im gonna get blown over b/c of its height (even though i know i wont), and around turns it blows hard core...if i miss a turn theres no SLOWING down to make it - its drive on ahead and U turn time, the brakes (b/c its one of the heaviest cars in the world - or so i was told) dont last SUPER long and are about oooooooo 2k to entierly replace - yeah this car needs to die! I got the year model that was the "test" year - electrical stuff goes wrong with the computer in it ALL the time. When i used to run it through a car wash or if it rained it TOTALLY shut off, everything, fuel and all - the tardo hunk of metal thought i was trying to STEAL it so it shut off, all b/c the moisture was affecting the "computer thingy" in my car. It was been a GIANT pain in the behind....BUT...i will stay this for it...on our property that is very mountaineous (sp?) with dirt roads and alot of mud this car is THE [censored]! i thought the weight of it would cause it to suck on some of the huge hills after a ton of rain...but it still made it up like a champ. (the reason the car is NOT sold) Its a great car if u need it for this kind of stuff with a nice bit of luxury added to the inside...i got it in white so trees and what not scratches dont show hardly at all, but u can tell i throw hair, tools, buckets, coolers, etc in the back (scratched the back panels a lil) so its kinda sucks to pay a decent amount for a car ur gonna bang up a lil. If ur gonna get a car for looks/name DONT buy this kind...the newer ones ive heard are MUCH better and WAY improved i have been wanting to go take a look, but the gas mileage and pick up alone is enough to make me never want another (although someome i just talked to about this said u can get the range rovers without the steel reinforced bottoms now...so im guessing this would also apply to the land rovers as well - which would improve the gas and pick up problems) PS: the seats SUCK for long periods of time...they are very ridgid in thier directions and arent too comfortable...i always feel like im sitting SUPER straight...and i like to relax in my car especially if driving for a LONG distance ALSO...the prices depretiate on these fast after a certain # of years...but all in all buy what YOU want and what suits u...gettin a car is always a compromise in some shape or form |

[/ QUOTE ] No camera, no Nav. My wife thought those were stupid. I think I disagree on the camera, and am plus/minus on the Nav (given that we never go anywhere - she puts ~4k miles/year on a car). -Ash |
