Weak-tight with JJ
I'd been LAGging up this table pretty good for the first 30 minutes, and was gearing down to a more sane level. This one just didn't flow for me, though. UTG+1 was classic weak-tight and never bet without a strong hand. I don't think I ever saw her raise to this point.
Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (9 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is SB with J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. 1 fold, UTG+1 calls, MP1 calls, MP2 calls, 3 folds, Hero completes, BB checks, These jacks have been ruining me recently, and I just couldn't force myself to hit the "raise" button. Perhaps it should be a little bigger. Flop: (5 SB) 8[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (5 players) Hero bets, BB raises, UTG+1 calls, MP1 folds, MP2 folds, Hero 3-bets, BB calls, UTG+1 calls. I don't see any reason to slowplay this set, so I just hit it as hard as they let me. I'm getting zero respect! Turn: (7 BB) 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero checks, BB checks, UTG+1 checks. Now I get all scared. River: (7 BB) 5[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players) Hero bets, BB calls, UTG+1 raises, Hero calls, BB folds. Ok ... all better now, then scared again. Aargh!!! Final Pot: 12 BB Main Pot: 12 BB, between Hero and UTG+1. > Pot won by Hero (12 BB). Results in white below: UTG+1 shows Ac Qh (one pair, queens). Hero shows Jd Jc (three of a kind, jacks). Outcome: Hero wins 12 BB. You'd think I'd never read a single post here. |

Re: Weak-tight with JJ
You need to raise this preflop.
Leading the flop is fine, 3-betting good - so lead the turn. River, sure, but you'll have a much better read with more aggression earlier in hand. |

Re: Weak-tight with JJ
Raise pf.... Yes JJ gets beat.... so do AA and 72o. Raise pf w/ JJ because you more than likely have the best hand.
Good cap on flop... Bet the turn. Good bet/call on river. |

Re: Weak-tight with JJ
With big pocket pairs, bet them preflop like there is no tommorrow... then keep betting until someone slows you down.
On the flop you have the best hand, but it is still vunerable to others improving their hand (catching a 3rd queen or maybe a flush), so capping it is correct. I would keep betting on the turn too... if they have the flush, they will let you know by re-raising you. The river aggression would scare me too... but only enough to slow me down, not enough to fold (especially in the face of them checking the turn previously). |
