big cards-pairs vc few/ small-suited vs many????

recently read about (generally) you will like to play big crds and high pairs vs fewer players, and smaller pairs and suits vc more players.. BUT.. if you have small pair, say 6 or 7, against MORE players, wouldnt it be more likely that someone has you beat?? and when you have a higher pair in the pocket, say K or A or you flop top two, wouldnt you want more people, knowing they are beat, to feed the pot and call with their draws??
