Default I play weird

2/5 5-handed game, I'm SB with A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] and 520 behind. UTG folds, Button makes it 10, I reraise to 40, BB coldcalls with 650 behind, Button folds.

This guy keeps pushing me out of pots when I raise preflop. He checkminraised a few times when I had overcards and I laid it down. A few hands ago, I raised preflop with QQ and he checkraised me on a 7-high 2-flush board, I reraised and he folded. He's probably betting air most of the time with his checkraises; I guess he thinks I can be pushed around (true).

Anyway, flop K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]3[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] with 90 in the pot.

I check, he bets 55, I call.

Turn J[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] with 200 in the pot.

I check, he bets 140, I call.

River J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] with 480 in the pot.

I push for almost 300.

I'm playing with my style and mixing it up. My old style of betting the flop with anything after raising preflop and then giving up against resistance isn't working too well, so I'm trying a much more passive style. It lands me in some bizarre spots though, like this hand, where I have no idea if I'm ahead or behind. Anyone else play this hand similarly?

What do you expect that he might call you with?

bet this flop, give him the opportunity to raise you, and then get the rest in on the turn.

as it is, i like a check call or smallish value bet on the river.

I agree with this. But also the villain is pushing you around because you let him, albeit out of position. You are letting him control the hand which doesn't really give you an accurate read on his hand. When you let him bet himself into some kind of backdoor hand you are going to be really sorry.

Is the river supposed to be a value bet or a bluff?

i bet out on this flop and hope he raises you, since you said he likes to push around. then you can call and checkraise allin on the turn, this is a pretty safe board for such a play. i dont like checking this flop at all. im assuming you make continuation bets on most pots you raise preflop, so you have to bet when you have a hand too, otherwise you become predictable.

I'm in a big funk right now and I'm trying many different things to get out of it. I should mention that this guy was pretty loose, so I felt that with my reraise preflop, betting out on the flop takes it down most of the time. I think I'm really trying too hard or something and making really strange moves where the standard line would be fine.

Normally I just fire away at the pot until my chips are all-in. Not sure what I was doing on the river. Anyway, very weird hand. He folded on the end and said something about me being a fish and catching.

I've been using the check/call all streets line with decent hands vs very aggressive players recently, with pretty good success. Of course, I end up siphoning chips away to better hands, which is pretty annoying, as well as letting villains catch dumb two pairs. Do any of you use the passive approach with success, or have I just been fairly lucky recently?

i don't mind a check call on the flop and turn, to be honest. value bet the river.

river all in is horrendous. i can't think of a worse hand that calls, and i can't think of a better hand that folds. maybe you push AK off a chop.
