Default Dealing with MTT variance vs. SNG\'s

I currently 4-table the $50 SNGs, and this is my "steady" poker income.

I recently started playing MTTs more regularly... I have played about 100 $50-200 buyin tourneys over the past 3 months (all on Party) **I am well aware that this is a tiny sample size**. I've made 2 final tables, cashed about 20, and had one nice 1st place finish which accounts for a large percentage of my overall poker winnings.

As I was looking back over my stats for March though, I realized that I had a fairly significant negative ROI for MTT's in March including not a single ITM finish in the $50 MTTs. My initial reaction to this was that MTTs were maybe a bit of a cash drain on my bankroll, but this thought seems to contradict itself seeing as though my MTT win was for more than the total amount I've made playing SNGs...

Now I realize that MTTs inherently have a high variance, but is there a point where my time might be better well spent playing the lower risk SNGs as opposed to the high variance MTTs?

I'm curious to hear some experienced MTTers thoughts on this...

Like you I struggled in this area too, but on a smaller scale.

<free bump>

If you have 100 buy-ins on hand for $50-$100 entry MTT's I think you can run with it.

If you really run bad after first 25, perhaps drop back to SNG's until you've gotten the buy-in's back to 100, rinse and repeat until your set.

I should take my own advice, except my cable has gone out 20+ times in the passed 3 weeks!

Also, I'd try some $30 ones, easier prey supposedly....(it's true) and much easier to have 100 buy-ins.

Best of luck!
