I thought about this for the last couple of hours, and have decided, that I would probably wait around near the teller station, and not saying anything, but listen for someone who lost money. I def would not give it to a teller, but would feel morally obligated to do something about it. 640$ per half hour is a pretty good wage.

This seems like the worst plan posted so far. I think its even worse than "just keep it" because of the inherent dishonesty the likelihood of success implies.

I have to agree that just telling the teller I found money and leaving my number is the best idea. I wasn't thinking clearly at that moment, but the next time I find $640 lying on the ground, I will be sure to follow this course of action!

Considering it was probably someones Christmas money that they were going to buy presents with, you did the right thing.

Yes, keeping someone's normal money they worked hard for is much better.

Dunno, but they give away free envelopes that can hold at least $640.

Right. As opposed to money that was going to pay for bills or buy groceries.

Honestly, I probably would've just kept the cash. Not because of anything selfish, but because I wouldn't have thought of a way I could find the owner or have the owner find me. If I had found a wallet with $1k in it, I'd definitely contact the owner and give them the money and wallet, without a doubt. But yeah, I wouldn't have thought to give the teller a number to call to name the amount probably because if I lost a bunch of cash I would never think to call the place I lost it at. I'd just assume it gone forever.

Are you really saying you would have simply shoved the money in your pocket when you say, "I wouldn't have thought of a way I could find the owner or have the owner find me?"

Pretty much yeah. If I didn't see who dropped it, how am I going to seek out the owner or have the owner seek out me?

I don't know. Maybe leave your name and number with an employee? No one has brought this up yet, though, so I can see how you would overlook it.
