McGee in Detroit for U of M/Notre Dame

Hey all

I'll be in Detroit Friday, September 9. My cousin, who attends school at Michigan, will be picking me up Friday night and we're looking to get in some poker before heading to Ann Arbor. I seem to remember reading that the Detroit rooms can get kind of crowded, and I assume Friday night is super-busy.

-Which room, if any, has the shortest wait lists? (I'm looking to play something in the vicinity of 5/10-10/20 and my cousin will want to play no higher than 5/10, smaller if possible).

-Can I call ahead and get my name on the list?

Basically, I'm looking for any advice that will get me into a game in a Detroit casino as fast as possible.

yeah there busy at greektown but you can call ahead and get on the list. I actually dont think th 5/10 or 10/20 tables will be a long wait at all though, probably good if you just call.

Dang, one week off. I'll be in Michigan for the NIU game on 9/3. Probably gonna hit Greektown on Sunday afternoon.

Is there any reason to play at MCC over Greektown? Looking to play 10/20.

I've only been to Greektown twice and Motor City once so I'm far from being an expert. Greektown has 3/6 but Motor City does not. I thought that the Greektown casino was very poorly run. The dealers did not have control over their games. However, I was also frustrated by the fact that Motor City did a poor job of keeping their tables filled dispite having a list of players. My friend was behind me on the list and was waiting for 30-45 minutes AFTER a seat opened up. There were 3 open seats at my table before they finally started calling names.

My preference would be Motor City because its room is non-smoking and they give you free sandwiches/cookies/soft drinks (other drinks also if you get them from the waitress). You could also consider going across the border to Windor if you wanted to, but they also have long lines and they don't seem to get games above 5/10 (Canadian) going that often.

If you call ahead at Greektown, you have 1 hour to get to the desk to check in. They spread 3/6, 5/10, and 10/20 (sometimes 20/40 but it's often a HE/O8 round by round).

On a Friday night, if you call ahead and get there about when the hour expires, you're looking at about 20 minutes for a 5/10 seat, and more or less for 3/6 depending on the time.

Greektown ususally spreads 2 5/10 games and ~4 3/6 games. Motor City's room is < 10 tables total, and has no 3/6. I don't know how the wait compares, but I'd have to think it's longer in general just because of the fewer tables.

Motor City's rake is $1 more than Greektown's (capped at $6 compared to $5, both have a BBJ).
