Default Call down?

Opponent here is a 24/16

Party Poker 15/30 Hold'em (9 handed) converter

Preflop: Hero is CO with T[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img].
<font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 raises</font>, <font color="#666666">2 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">Hero 3-bets</font>, <font color="#666666">3 folds</font>, <font color="#CC3333">MP1 caps</font>, Hero calls.

Flop: (9.66 SB) Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, Hero calls.

Turn: (5.83 BB) K[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] <font color="#0000FF">(2 players)</font>
<font color="#CC3333">MP1 bets</font>, Hero folds.

Final Pot: 6.83 BB

On the flop it looked like a nice hand to call down with, hoping to see AK.

After the turn brought a K, I couldn't think of a hand that would cap preflop that I would be ahead of here.
JJ, QQ, KK, AA, AK, AQ, KQ

Do you call down here and hope he has 99? If the only big cards showing were QQ I would have called down.

At the time I was running really bad, is this a weak-tight play motivated by a recent string of losses?

I think it's a good laydown. Consider raising the turn if a blank had come.

It looks good to me, but what do you do if the turn is a blank and and A or K comes on the river?

This is the third example I've read today of someone overplaying a middle pair before the flop.

Did Mason change the hand rankings or something? TT is not a 3-betting hand in most situations. This is not unsimilar to the 99 hand posted in another thread.

It's hard to know what would happen if you just called, but you can't possibly be happy to get capped when you have TT.

Anyway, you should have bet the flop, in case you have the best hand. You might win the pot then and there, and if not, you're putting a lot of heat on hands like AK and JJ. Check-calling doesn't give your opponents a chance to fold and doesn't give you any chance to find out where you stand, and if you check you also risk giving up a free card.

Note that betting the flop is somewhat more likely to succeed if you don't 3-bet preflop. The pot is smaller, making it less likely that your opponents will call with a non-pair, and they will be less reluctant to put you on AQ, KQ, or QJ--hands that are often raised but not so often reraised.

Situations where TT is not a 3-betting hand:

1. Disfunctional mouse.
2. Power outage.
3. All the damn porn I'm downloading causes my PC to lock up.
