It's got the clinical trials to back it up too. |

Re: Best Electric Toothbrush
I'm googling around, and I found this NIH study that says sonicare is better than Oral-B ..
I'm not seeing anything for "professional" series... |

Re: Best Electric Toothbrush
My dentist has always recommended Sonicare, and it's always worked for me. Never tried the other one.

Re: Best Electric Toothbrush
I'm actually interested in this as well. I've been using a cheapo electric toothbrush for the past two years, but have been thinking for awhile that I should invest in the top of the line one. I just have no idea what that is.

i [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] my sonicare.
both oralb and sonicare are suppose to be good. the oralb one spins. the sonicare one vibrates back and forth (which is the motion dentists recommend you to brush...). i guess it depends what motion you'd prefer since they're both good for your teeth ? |

Re: Best Electric Toothbrush
In dental school we have talked very little about this. Its kind of a nonissue to us. Every study has shown manual toothbrushing to be just as effective as long as you do it for the required amount of time.
The main benefits of Electric Toothbrushes are as follows: 1. Youre lazy and dont like working out your forearms 2. You have some sort of problem that messes up your ability to brush...like some muscle parasthesia or spasms. This is the main benefit. 3. You dont brush long enough so you need the fact that the electrics have a timer on them is helpful. As far as which one is better?? It doesnt really matter...spinning vs back and forth. Just use it for the right time and make sure to hit up all the areas around your gumline and in between the teeth. Also floss. -JP |
