Default Chicago area 15-30 stud/8

If anyone's interested, Harrahs in East Chicago will probably be having a 15-30 stud hi-lo game tomorrow (6/14) starting at 1pm (CST). They usually only have stud hi-lo at $2-10 or part of a HOSE game...number for the poker room is 219-378-3558. Don't ask me for details, I don't play 8 or better, I'm just posting this for general info.

PS if this is the wrong forum for this type of info, please PM me so I know..

I wish I had read this sooner. That sounds like a good game.
What do they normally spread?
They have $20-40 Hold 'em everyday. $10-20 Hold 'em also runs everyday. That game has been popular lately. I've seen 2-3 $10-20's on a Monday (which is a slow day. The $20-40 doesn't kick off until 7pm on Mondays). I wish more of those $10-20 fish would move up to $20-40. They also spread $5-10 hold 'em. (I don't think it's beatable with the $6 rake ($5 rake & $1 bad beat jackpot). $1-5 stud and $5-10 Omaha are usually spread. On the weekends, there's usually a HOSE game. There used to be $50-100 Hose every weekend, but lately it's been $40-80, or more often $30-60. $30-60 Omaha 8/better & stud 8/better is spread often during the weekdays, usually starting around 9pm or so.
Pot Limit Omaha (I forget the blind structure) is played every Monday and Tuesday. BTW, the $30-60 high low games charges a $7 collection every half hour. The $30-60 Hose charges $8/half hour. In my opinion, that's brutal. Many of the dealers are terrible at the Harrah's. Omaha is slow enough ,but add the slow dealers (and the fact that many of them can't read the Omaha hands properly), and you get very few hands. The collection charge is almost as much as California's hold 'em collection, and you don't get much for it here. You get $1/hr in comp money.

The $10-20 is probably softest on the weekends. It is soft everyday . It's your typical loose passive game, most of the time. You'll get a ton of limpers preflop.

rhw, I haven't been to Harrah's 10-20 in a long time but I do agree with your assement on the weekends. Much better. But as for the weekdays, loose/passive?. That place was a rockgarden for 10-20 and 20-40 game was the soft game. Did it do a flip flop. I've been out of the loop for a while there. Please let me know.

Default $10-20 & $20-40 Hold \'em

Both games definately are beatable. As I stated in the earlier post, the $20-40 is tougher because the players are more agressive. Some of the fishes know how to lay down hands, and they'll get you for a lot of bets when they suck out on you (if you don't know what you're doing). In the $10-20 games, many of the players are terrible. Isolation doesn't work that well there. In $20-40, I can often get a hand heads up by three betting a fish. In $10-20, I wouldn't try the same move as it likely won't end up heads up. The $10-20 at the Harrah's is a different beast than the $20-40, but the fluctuation are lower because the players are less aggressive. You'll have multiway action, so you can limp in with a lot of stuff. When they suck out, the fishes there will miss bets or make it obvious that you are beat (which allows you to save bets).

I think the passivity at the $10-$20 totally depends on the day and the table you're at. I was there last night and there were 3 people at my table calling down everything for multiple bets (I mean stuff like K6o, J5o, non-nut draws for 2+ bets on the turn). I had to adjust my play (i.e. not raise w/ 88 cuz no one was folding, etc) and it worked out to $450 in less than 4 hours, I got paid off on every big hand by multiple people.

On the flip side, I've been there at the main game with a table full of tough players usually no more than 2 or 3 in a pot. It really depends.

But in general this game is highly profitable for good players. Also, the two other card rooms in the area (Blue Chip casino and the one in Aurora) both closed (or will soon close) their poker rooms recently, so there will probably be at least 3 tables of 10-20 most days. The last two mondays and wednesdays there has been 3 tables and the weekends always have 3+ tables.

Yes, it does depend on the day. The $20-40 on Monday played the way I had described the $10-20. The $20-40 was extremely loose from around 9pm-12am. I haven't seen it that loose passive in ages.

BTW, doesn't it suck how our comps are now useless? My friend was lucky to get a $300 overcomp for the steakhouse before they shut the computer down at midnight. The rest of us lost our comps, and we will get no more comps under the new system.

I agree. Seems like more people from the lower limits are taking shots at 10-20 ever since they got rid of 4-8 at Harrah's. I think both games 10-20 and 20-40 can be very profitable like you said for any player that is wise to the situation. With players playing Any Ace; K,6o and the J,5o at 10-20 like you said you will be able to really get these calling stations to give up alot of money. But like you also said, when they suck out and hit their mircle cards you can save bets on the end. But there will be times you have to pay for it and lose that 100-170 on a hand, in a 10-20 game. But reading the table early and well will go a long way, naturally.
