French cuffs on dressy casual shirts

I'm talking about shirts like the more colorful stuff on this page (Some info if you're confused).

I voted stupid because french cuffs are not something I would normally where. If I did it would most likely be out of an attempt to be something I am not.

However I think there are guys who could pull them off and qualify as pimp.

i think it can be done tastefully. as long as the shirt isnt too flashy, otherwise its like having top shelf whiskey in your jack 'n coke.

I think a lot of how pimp it looks depends on the cuff links/knots you wear.

EDIT: I just looked at the page in your link, apparently all those shits have buttons. In that case I think it's just stupid.

I think it works well with colorful shirts, but doesn't look good on more conservative type shirts. The one on the top right of the Banana Republic page would look good if you can pull it off, but would look terrible if you can't pull it off. Don't see much middle ground.

I tend to reserve french cuffs for more formal occasions. I can say with certainty that I've never worn them without a suit. If you would wear one of those shirts with a suit, then by all means, get the french cuffs rather than button cuffs. Also, invest in quality cuff links.

A couple of clarifications.

First off, french cuffs are like the cuffs on a tux shirt. No buttons, you use cuff links. This is pictured in the second link I gave if you cursor over point #3.

Secondly, I guess I was mainly expecting to hear from people who think it's a normal option to wear french cuff shirts with suits. In a number of places, especially NY/Europe/Asia, it is almost standard to wear french cuff shirts with suits. But a lot of people who wear these shirts to work every day think it's crazy to wear them when not wearing a suit. And their head explodes at the idea of a dressy casusal french cuff shirt and jeans.

I think that's a great analogy. While some people might be able to pull the look off, I really don't think that any occassion where a french cuffed shirt should be worn would qualify as casual.

I think I much prefer barrel cuffs on any shirt I wear. but you're kind of a baller, Diablo, so you might be able to pull off the French cuff look. not for me, though.
