Default Thinking of playing SnGs seriously... What should I do to prepare?

What sort of software programs should I have, how should I keep track of my finishes, etc? As of right now, I just plan on keeping it in Excel. Is that not enough? I mean, are there programs tailored to the more serious SnGer?

Also, how many Buy-ins should I have in my Bankroll?

If these questions are asked, and I am sure they are (but damned if I know how to use the search feature to actually limit the results to what I want), then just point me to the appropriate threads.

Thanks!
Dan

Nice to have, but not required. SNG Tracker or the AM spreadsheet will more than suffice.

Mental preparation. It is hard to describe how much bad luck you can have unless you play a lot of tournaments a day.

In LDT's link there is Record Keeping section with a link to AleoMagus's excel spreadsheets. Although they may be a little excessive, you can find all of the important equations needed to customize your own spreadsheet. The essential stat you want to keep track of is Return of Investment (ROI), try to keep it up around 30%. If your anything like me playing with these spreadsheets alone will keep you busy for hours with some of the stats like winning confidence, risk of ruin, and expected profit.

Not so helpful when Pokertracker tells you how profitable 39o has been for you just cuz you only push it when you play it.

SnG Tracker is awesome but the SDK you have to install to run it is a hoss. Be forewarned.

I would make the investment in Easybay's program as well. http://www.sitngo-analyzer.com/phpBB2/

Read, study, use the replayer. You will be astonished what crap other players are playing. Set a number of tourneys to play every day, week, etc and do it. Don't look at the cash in your account until the end of your day. Result oriented thinking stinks.

The thread about which posters to read is a good starting point on who to pay attention to.
