It describes the reason that you can raise first in with more hands closer to the button (not position). I think I heard it in a tourney forum, it might have been related to hands that you can push all in with when shortstacked.

PS. I want to use this word and it's definition for a sheepshead situation, it would perfectly describe why you want to pick with weaker hands the closer you are to the dealer - position is an added benefit, but you don't pick because of position. You pick (with weaker hands) because the more people that pass in front of you the less likely it is someone has a great hand and the more likely it is that there's good cards in the blind.

I don't know if there is a widely used poker term for this, but what you speak of involves the distribution of cards. If everyone before you folds, it is slightly (very slightly) less likely that they held any aces or kings. Therefore, there are more aces and kings in the deck. The probability that your remaining opponents hold aces or kinds is slightly increased.

This is mainly discussed when someone in the short handed forum asks about preflop play. The standard question is "Should you play the same as in a full ring game when all your opponents have folded to you?" The simple answer is "yes", the only difference being this distribution of cards.

Actually, the Gap Concept, if applied intelligently by your opposition, suggests that you are more likely to face a big reraise when raising first-in on the button tha you are when raising UTG.
