Thnaksgiving Laptop Help

I am considering getting a laptop to play er, backgammon, do some basic computing, watch movies on the road etc. Don't need a gaming system, just something that I can work on that isn't slow as dirt. Both Circuit City and Best Buy are offering Toshibas below $500, I need some advice on which one is best for the money. I ma leaning toward the Circuit City deal because of the larger HD and RAM, but wanted some of you tech experts to help me.
