coining a term for words like moran
As I was reading OOT today, I saw the standard usage of "moran", "retarted" and so on. I got to thinking about words like these and realized that I couldn't think of a term or word to classify them. I feel that they're common enough on the internet to warrant a grouping term, but "leet speak" is broad and doesn't describe these words, and I can't think of anything else.
Perhaps I'm just a retarted moran for even thinking of this, but I found it interesting...Thoughts? |

asofelisms?
I think they probably just fall under the term of slang or possibly "OOT jargon" |

They're not really oot specific though, those words are used all over the interent. Especially moran.

Dumbing down of the English language? [/ QUOTE ] its not dumbing down though, that's the thing. Things like "omfg whatevr d00d u r like so laim" is dumb. Calling someone a 'moran' has a point behind it, especially when you think that person will laugh at you and point out the obvious "irony". Although i like ootisms, its easily not contained to just OOT. For example, the senior citizen driving through a farmer's market is definitely a farkism. SIIHP, YSSCKY and a whole slew of others are ootisms...but for the generic misspelling of a normal word....I don't know, i think that's something new. |

OK, as long as you are not including terms like 'lol' and omfg. Other possibilities:
netirony (pronounced ne tire-ony) irany |
