A. Definitely not a felony issue.

B. WTF is this post doing in the "Internet Gambling" forum?

C. I went to school in NEPA (Northeat Pennsylvania). Loved the school, loved the parties/friends etc but if you live there permanently, well quite frankly, I'm sorry .

kids go to jail

administrators get fired

next question??

seriously though, "high school hacking" -> "mass credit card fraud and extortion" as "shoplifting" -> "larceny". nip it in the bud while they're young, but a felony is a bit of an overkill. especially if no harm was done.

FYI a group of AP comp science kids at my school including me got into our school's system due to similar oversight by admins (open password files). These passwords gave access to free lunches, all locker combinations, grades, attendance etc. punishments ranged from 1 week suspension and revoking of computer privileges to one month suspension of computer privileges (my punishment). we learned our lesson without a felony conviction.

Yes it's a felony. Felony stupidity on the part of the school administration. Of course if this were uniformly enforced, 95% of school administrators would be in prison.

Absolutely the administrations fault. If they can not provide a secure machine to the students, the students shouldn't have a machine.

In a company if an employee goes out and browses internet porn on company time it is the companies fault for not blocking it. No action can be taken against said employee unless it is in some way illegal such as kiddie porn. Thats the way it work in IL anyhow.

Interesting note too; An employee is not required to hand back company equipment from their home. However the company isn't required to give a final paycheck then. Of course there are laws that state otherwise, but there are reasons why companies have a very difficult time persuing Jane Doe who we know had a laptop and didnt turn it in. "I did turn it in" she says, etc.

This is what is wrong with this country. We ought to give these kids scholarships, instead we give them felonies. Go public schools!

B. Here is a quote for the FAQ's "Many of the posters here do not go to the other forums on 2+2, and hence from time to time an off topic thread will pop up on here."

I'm sorry if I offended anyone by bring an off topic to the internet gambling forum but this issue just ticked me off.

C. I love living here but I have to travel outside of the state to work most of the time because of the job situation around here.
