Blame the wildcard for November games. Maybe we should undo that change.

Institution of wild card has been great for baseball. Look at the races this year and if there was no wild card there would have been no Yanks-Red Sox postseason play last two years. These were merely two of the best post season series ever played.

What's the point of a pennant race if you are just going to decide the winner in a post-season series anyway?

The pennant used to mean something.

Well, I'll go against the trend and say that I like this idea. Of course, it would be impractical to do this without limit. Add to this the fact that every third day would be a travel day (I assume that there needs to be a balance of hame and away games), and the series could get very long indeed. I suggest the following:

1) shorten the regular season so that it is done after the first week of september.

2) increase the divisional series to best of 7 (I actually would prefer best of 9, but I know that all of you would hate that idea (not that you don't already hate everything I'm sugesting)).

3) Play the WS according to your format, but require at least 5 wins to win the series (I actually would prefer 6 or 7 wins be required, but I know that all of you would hate that idea (not that you don't already hate everything I'm sugesting)).

4) Put a cap on the length of the series so that it can't go past the end of october (about 22 games). If the series is still tied at this point, a decisive game (game 23) would be played at a neutral site (I actually would prefer that co-champions be declared, but I know that all of you would hate that idea (not that you don't already hate everything I'm sugesting))

Anyone else find this statement ironic coming from a BoSox fan?

I can just imagine Curt Schilling, his pitching arm about twice as long as his other arm, trudging through the snow to get to the mound, wearing snowshoes, to Pitch Game 29 of the 2005 Fall Classic.

And if the Sox win it:

is there any other reason not to do it this way?

Because this isn't Europe or tennis, where they attempt to remove all drama from all sports. Sometimes it's not about proving that you're "clearly" better than the other team over a long sample...sometimes it's simply about proving that you sacked up at crunch-time. We are America (at least if you're talking about the World Series - which should not be named that), where winners take all and losers get shat on...it should only follow that the same trend be expected of the national pastime.

In this case, I recomend that the playoff be single games played a week apart.
