DVD/CD R/RW what the f?
I have a dvd/cd burner. I went to staples to get some discs to save my data to, the guy says any of them will work so I get DVD/R.
WHen I try to put info on the disc it says no disc is in the drive and ask for a DVD or CD R/RW. What the heck is the deal with all this stuff? What are the DVD-R s good for? |

Re: DVD/CD R/RW what the f?
Is your drive a dvd AND cd burner, or a DVD-ROM and CD burner?
My drive is listed as DVD+-RW/CDRW. This means it can burn DVD+R, DVD-R, CD-R, and CD-RW. It can read DVD-Roms and CD-Roms. It sounds like your drive is a DVD-reader, but not a DVD-writer. Freakin |

[ QUOTE ]
4x DVD-R 4x DVD+RW 8x DVD [/ QUOTE ] These must be incorrect. I know this because there is a difference between "DVD+R" and "DVD-R". Your drive can probably only support one of these formats, and you bought the wrong kind of discs. |

Re: DVD/CD R/RW what the f?
I learned this the hard way when I bought a DVD writer for my folks.
The DVD's come in two seperate, distinct formats. Many writers will only accept one kind of disk. DVD+R DVD-R (I didn't notice my new movie creator only used DVD+R disks until after buying a stack of DVD-Rs.. heh.) Meanwhile all CD's come in CD-R format. If any of the above are shown as RW, that means they are re-writeable as opposed to a one-time writing. Pack |

Re: DVD/CD R/RW what the f?
Like what the others said, DVD+R is different from DVD-R. Some of the newer writers can burn both, but most of the older and current DVD burners can only burn one or the other.
