Default WOW, cardplayer gives credit to a 2+2 book

The current issue of cardplayer features a review of 2005 poker books. Here's a link

Harrington vol.2 is strongly recommended by Tim Peters, who says "this book will change your life." For those who don't know, cardplayer has a history of bashing 2+2. They even had a poll asking what the best poker book of all time was. Both of Hellmuth's books made the list, but HEPFAP, TOP, didn't. Not a single 2+2 book was mentioned.

Maybe this review slipped by Barry Schulman? Or maybe it would simply be too embarassing to ignore HOH v.2. Whatever the reason, I'm happy for Mason and Harrington and Robertie that their book got such good press.

Viva 2+2!

I hope more good players see this review and switch to tournaments. That way my LHE games will be softer.

Not sure if HOH v.2 really needed more good press, but it is good to see recognized as one of the best books. Hope v.III comes out soon.

Until SSH, 2+2 books were pretty damn boring - there I said it.

SSH got a LOT of press in Cardplayer.

And vice-versa. It's reminiscent of the cold war between the U.S. and the former Soviet Union. They co-exist, but every now and then they go into verbal attack mode.

For this reason alone one really shouldn't even bother with most of the idiotic stuff that card-player says (as if there aren't other reasons).

Some of Negreneau's (and a couple others) articles are occasionally interesting.
But to talk about the best poker books and virtually ignore 2+2 is REALLY childish of them.

Hi Bob:

It's our experience that Card Player has virtually no impact on our poker book sales.

Thanks for your support.

Best wishes,
Mason

So when a major website/magazine diverts keen poker players (i.e. players looking for which book to buy) away from your books (which is what they pretty much did by excluding any 2+2 titles in their best book poll) this has no impact on your sales?

I'm glad that you haven't found much/any relation to their 2+2 ignoring and your sales.

I was obviously just referring to how worthwhile the actual content might be though...and to not include 2+2 books is just further evidence of how poor the overall content is in that mag.

They give it away for free at the casinos in Tunica where I occasionally play so I pick up a copy. Otherwise I wouldn't read it at all (I almost never go on their website to read any articles even though it's obviously quite easy to do so).

Even with little impact on 2+2 sales...I'm glad there are at least a few of my opponents out there who DO read this magazine and try to incorporate the sometimes VERY weird/incorrect strategies into their play.

(just like I'm glad Hellmuth's book was selling so well for awhile)
