Rude Introduction to Party
Well I finally scrapped up the bread from playing for bonuses on super-tight Interpoker and Poker Plex (as prescribed by who-sy-what's bankroll post) to make the $500 buy in to Party. Now I'm into ultra-loose .5/1 tables on Party and it seems that I cannot win. Typical situation is I'll continue with what looks like a decent-ish hand (top pair, decent kicker) to frequently lose to a ragedy two pair. Perhaps variance has the better of me right now.
There is no point to this post other than to vent. But since you're reading this, let me ask what has been asked countless times before: How would you sum up a strategy for beating ultra-loose, maniacal tables? Is the answer just to get tighter? Should one also raise their post-flop hand standards?

Everyone here has experienced this. No specific thing will help you beat tables. Play hands, post hands, read, and learn. Suckouts happen. If you get sucked out on, then you know you did something right at some point.
Meh....I'm on a 100BB downswing at the moment at Party .5/1. It sucks.

Don't be reluctant to go to showdown. I think a lot of players who try to be tricky with folds famine at .5/1 when things aren't running perfectly. You'll get c/red by opponents on the turn when they have [censored] somewhat often, so don't think you need TPTK to continue.

Well, you're basically asking how to play poker, so all I can say is the standard stuff:
read from the 2+2 library (small stakes holdem first) buy poker tracker use the forum by 1. lurking 2. posting responses to other people's hands 3. posting your own hands, preferably in this order.

Actually, I was just spewing. But since you're eager to put me on a question, I'll clarify that I was really asking: Why do I have a hard time navigating from tight to loose tables? Of course, it's an impossible question to answer without more information.
The advice given is good though. Particularly the bit about playing good poker. I should make a sign for myself or something, because I have no idea why I would forget that bit from time to time. But I do. Thanks.

Yeah my dad said he wanted to play some hold em at the casino he goes to. I got mad at him. I hate to think that somebody in my family would ruin my last name by being a fish at a poker table. He doesnt' know crap about balls when it comes to hold 'em. It's just gambling to the fish, but they think since it's about skill that they can win! Ahhh I love em and I hate em.

Yeah, it sucks, but I've recently concentrated on spotting the loose players, especially L-Ags at the table, and I always raise post-flop with a reasonable pair + good kicker, or 3-draw + any pair to (a) protect the hand and (b) get info
if the tights stay in I'll put no more in unless I improve somewhere (so I usually fold along the line, but sometimes it's check-check etc). If however no tights stay in, and it's you and 1-2 of the lags ones left (and if the L-Ags are just checking not raising), I play it to the hilt (translation - bet each round if I got a high pair, middle pair and good kicker or reasonable draws, check if not these or scare cards appear). It's working pretty well, and I'm taking 5-10 bucks a round with an unimproved pair about 60%-70% of the time. You get idiots still see you holding J high!!! However, I've only tried it in 2 games so far (both successfully), so we're talking a sample of hundreds not thousands - so it's not exactly a well-proven method! [img]/images/graemlins/crazy.gif[/img] So try it a bit would be my suggestion - but I'd welcome any comments from others on this. (BTW I'm talking about party here)
