Default Follow Up to Sobe\'s SB skipping.... BUYING THE BUTTON ...

can someone answer a couple questions for me

When joinging a ten handed is it better to:
A:Post the Regular BB, SB and get the button
B:Post a BB in the cutoff and get the hikack next hand
C:Post between and get the cutoff next hand
D:would answers change in a 9,8,7 handed game ???

When returning from a break (need to post BB+SB) is it :
A:better to buy the button (sb is dead)
B:better to post behind (sb is dead)

I'm going to take a shot at this, (and will probably get flamed for it )

If entering a new game, coming 'inbetween' costs you only 1 blind to see a 'round' of hands. So the first round of play costs you less. The value of this, of course, diminishes to meaningless if you play a long session (if looking at cost/hand over the entire session).

When returning, there are several factors working at cross-purposes, and no one has ever shown me a definitive answer as to what is better.

Obviously being in the blind is bad, you have the worst position. But you can get dealt a nice hand in the blinds. So if you're going to post in bad position, isn't it better to get to look at TWO hands for the same price, effectively doubling your chances of getting a solid, winning hand? So it seems 'buying the button' and playing one hand for 1.5x the price, yet getting the button is wrong...*IF* you have the option of just posting normally.

Often I 'buy the button' when I need to make a quick potty break. I fold my UTG hand, usually miss my BB, then 'buy it' to get back in the action quickly, and don't lose my button. But I think this is a worse option than posing my blinds normally.

But if you're looking at 'buying the button' versus posting in the CO, my money is on the 'buying the button' you're posting the same money, yet getting another hand. and the hand you get is the one with the BEST position on the table.
