Flopped a str8, Check folding it. Ok ?
I just joined this table. But I shouldn't be good here quite often with the brick on the turn.. Ok to check/fold it ?

Re: Flopped a str8, Check folding it. Ok ?
Bet the turn- just because he calls the flop doesnt mean he was on a heart draw. Maybe he flopped a good hand, but wanted to wait for a blank turn to raise. By checking the turn, you're basically announcing you don't have the flush presenting him with a definite +EV bluff.

UTG can easily have KQ or even weaker here, waiting to raise you on a safe turn. I bet, because when I check UTG should bet any 2 cards. If you're ahead, you will usually win it right there, and you are certainly ahead more than 20%.

Re: Flopped a str8, Check folding it. Ok ?
I think a bluff raise by him in this spot would be thin and probably -EV in the long run being that you bet out into a field of 4 including a pre-flop raiser on the flop and continued betting on the turn after the 4th flush card hit. A lot of hands with flushes will play it similarly. So, if he raises I think a fold is easy.

anyone like check-calling down? I don't think he is gonna fold a heart if bet into.

Betting denies UTG a free shot at a chop or at a boat if he flopped two pair or better. But if we're assuming he's going to bet if checked to no matter what he has, then the free card doesn't matter so much. It seems to me that if we're betting, we're doing it for information, with the idea that whether UTG calls or raises, we're not putting any more money in the pot. Also, I guess the idea is that we'd prefer to put one more bet in the pot than two, since there is a really good chance we're beaten. Then again, if UTG bluffs the turn with just TPTK, do we expect him to fire again on the river after getting called? Could we take a check-call turn line, followed by a check-fold river line? I don't know how the 10/20 plays, so mostly I'm just wondering about our options here. |
