Default My friend has a problem with playing out of his bankroll

One of my friends, who is pretty good at poker, has a huge problem about playing out of his bankroll. He deposited $100 a few days ago and jumped straight into 5/10 shorthanded games on partypoker. Now he's playing 10/20, with a $900 bankroll! I try to tell him that even if he was a perfect player, he has a very high chance of busting out. He says that he knows he is playing outside his bankroll. The problem is that his mommy gives him a $100 a week allowance, and he keeps losing the money. What should I say to him? Is it even my responsibility to try and stop him from losing his money, or should I just bite my tongue?

He obviously can afford to lose the money. He's obviously aware that he's likely to lose it. He's obviously having fun playing this way.

Just sit on his left and isolate him

yea, what you need to do is tell him to come down a level and play against you, he'll think little of the amount of money and play so loose, you'll have his money in no time, then maybe he'll learn to play with in his bankroll

The first step in helping him is to PM me with his screen name.

Well, if he does not want help then don't help him anymore. I have a close friend who is like that. He is never sufficiently bankrolled and always likes to jump into the higher limit games. Sure he plays well, but variance doesn't care how well you play as the swings will still happen.

Based on what? He had a good run of cards?

He won't listen. Hopefully his mom will when she keeps rebuying. He/they will have to learn the hard way.

Why would it be? He already told you his answer.

There ya go.

Sit on his left. Better you get the money than someone else, isn't it?

That got my coffee through my nose. Many thanks.

Also, PM his "mommy's" name. I'm up for adoption.

No, not moving to Cleveland. At Borgata's noodle restaurant, their menu proudly displayed thier locations, which included something like "Hong Kong, Taipei, Tokyo, Beijing, and Cleveland."

I just thought it was kind of weird that there was this long list of Asian cities, and then Cleveland.

Congratulations on not moving to cleveland though- this, (and every other day of your life that you don't live here) should be a very very good day for you.
