Default Pot management Guidelines Needed

Ok, I've read about managing the size of the pot in limit to keep control of the pot odds and either tie someone to the pot or make sure they don't have the pot odds to call.

I've also seen in mentioned in this forum. My question is what is the goal for pot management in NL?

What situations does it come into play? i.e. starting hands and flops that you want to keep the pot small and for what reason.

Say I have TPTK with 2 flush on the board and 3 limpers with me...If I bet pot, someone may get the pot odds to call. Any pot management strategies for these situations.

Any math guidelines here that I can keep in mind...keep it simple cause I'm not that bright.
