Andy Bellin had some good stories along these lines in the book, "Poker Nation". He tried to get an interview with Huck Seed, who pretty much stiffed him, then gave him yes or no answers then left. Bellin's rationale was that, unluck sports stars or movie stars, gamblers make their living gambling with their own money, not from fans who buy tickets. They owe nothing to the general public (w/ the exception now of books/videos/ and other recent phenomenon of poker).
He also mentioned another writer who tried to interview Chan some years back. Johnny blew him off twice, then gave him 5 minutes after the writer flew across country to see him. OP should be happy Johnny didn't get really annoyed and throw some mean karate or kung fu action his way...oh wait, that's Jackie Chan, sorry...

I am not saying he has to be his best friend but he should just be civil. If he is not generally civil to other people than he is a dick. I agree that asking him for an autograph is dumb. But, regaurdless of that Chan should not be a jerkoff about it. If he doesn't want to give one he should just say I am sorry I don't do that and move on. I don't care if he gives him the sig. or not just don't be a dick about it.

In defense of the original poster, the guy did appear in Rounders so obviously fame is something he sought. Autographs and harassment is the price you pay.

Also, I think that it is becoming closer to the sports annalogy. The publicty is adding to the pro's bottom lines and so if they want to continue to expolit the publicty of poker they will have to approach public relations are part of their job. Poker is being marketed on personalities, not cards.

if he was to post here he would probably say- "I was on my way out of the casino to meet some friends for dinner when this guy came up to me and asked me for my autograph. I told him to hurry up politely and it seemed like he got upset with me, i was doing him a favor wasnt i?"
