Default Poker vacation: Vegas or LA??

I am planning on going on a trip with my dad and 2 brothers to play some cards this summer. Dad plays 1-5 stud, we play 2-4 to 6-12 and small NL.
We've been to Vegas several times and love it, but I'm just curious if people would recommend LA for a primarily card playing vacation. If so where would you recommend staying.(either specific hotel or a general area) I'm guessing we'd play Commerce or Bike. A room with a 24/7 stud game going would be ideal.

Is the rake so bad in LA that this would cut into our low limit fun??

Thanks for your thoughts, Ethan

I've never entered Commerce or Bicycle (I'm sure I will soon) but there is really NOTHING to do over there, it's like an industrial area. If you have ANY intention to do something different than poker, even 3% of the time, definitely go to Vegas.

if you haven't been to neither, I'd say Vegas. However, if you've been to Vegas dozens of times and want to try something different involving poker then I'd say head out to LA. You might not get another chance and if you really enjoy poker and nice Cali weather then why not?

If you've been to Vegas several times but never LA, then definitely LA. Other than gambling, there's far more to do, for people of all ages, in LA than Vegas. Unless all you want to do is play poker, stay near the beach, or anywhere besides near the card rooms.

Huh? Are you aware that approximately 5 million people live in the greater Los Angeles area? There are a bazillion things to do there.

I mean right around where the casinos are, there is nothing to do. It sucks, it's gray, there's gray freeways, big gray buildings, huge publicity signs. Not a great vacation.

BTW I went to the bike tonight, and I can tell you without hesitation: GO TO VEGAS! Unless you don't mind people splashing the pot, playing out of turn, eating while they're playing, kicking you, screaming at the dealer, smelling and cursing. And the dealers are real amateurs, players had to explain to them how to deal all the time. We spent more time fighting and cursing and screaming than playing cards. I didn't have any fun at all.

Your post brought about a lot of questions for me.

eating while they're playing

Why would you mind this?

[ QUOTE ]
kicking you

[/ QUOTE ]
There has got to be a story behind this. I refuse to believe that a stranger approached you randomly and kicked you.

[ QUOTE ]
smelling and cursing

[/ QUOTE ]
Is that smelling in an active or passive sense? Cursing, along with the rest of the sentence, is an active verb; so was this guy like sniffing around the table somewhat similarly to the manner in which a dog may react to a new person?

[/ QUOTE ]
Those active verbs are contagious, at least that's what I've heard.

The rake in California will kill you at those limits. Also if you go to LA you will have to rent a car unless you stay at the Commerce for the entire trip and never leave the casino. Vegas is cool so my recommedation is stick with Vegas.

Actually closer to 10 million in LA county alone. Add in OC, Ventura, and San Bernadino/Riverside counties and it gets closer to 18. Oh yeah, we have a little traffic sometimes here too.

Why would you mind (people eating while they're playgin)

[/ QUOTE ]
The guy was seating next to me, turning his back on our table. We had to call him 3 times EVERY time it was his action, and then he would turn back, burp, say something with his mouth full, rub his greasy fingers (the same that just handled his ham steack) against the felt to "clean" them up before handling his cards). Everybody was agravated by this player because he took so long to act, was always eating and asking for service and complaining to the service people. In the end he lost it all and left the table screaming "[censored] you all!". Nice.

[ QUOTE ]
There has to be a good story behind (people kicking you)

[/ QUOTE ]
It's just that people don't pay attention. They bump into you, kick your chair, kick your feet or legs.. at some point a woman started taping her foot repeatedly on top of mine, I had to just change my leg's position...

[ QUOTE ]
smelling

[/ QUOTE ]
in a passive sense. The guys who was eating smelled greasy food of course, but a lot of people had a nasty BO, and I'm really not sensitive to that kind of stuff usually.
