Default Poker site asking for photocopied proof of i.d. before withdrawal???

No poker comment but i didnt know where else to post this.

i received an email from a poker site i've been playing on for a while and they have said that because i have deposited with an unverified card recently i must send a photocopy of my drivers license or passport, my credit card and proof of address.

Is this normal? i have not done this before and am not too willing to hand over these details in particular over an insecure email.

Am i being too cautious or is this not right?

Of course they're going to ask for some sort of ID eventually.

Tell them that you won't be sending them anything but your driver's license, and that should be enough for them if it's enough for anyone else.

The chance of e-mail being intercepted is minimal.

If you are uncomfortable with a site having a clear pic of your ID just open it up in Photoshop and type something over the pic. "for identity verification" in yellow letters or something.

Agree with the above poster. Party Poker asked for a copy of my ID and credit card for verification purposes. I sent them a copy of my ID and told them that I didn't feel comfortable send a copy of my credit card. That was sufficient enough for them.

I was asked since I have two accounts someone told them on phone I would mail it. I never did and this was over 3 months ago.

Send them a seperate email first to make sure it was them who contacted you.

Don't reply to the original and use the address from the site in question's home page.

Assuming the ID request was legit, you can blackout any sensitive info like DL #, account #, etc. Just make sure they can see your name, address, and anything else they want.

I have been able to use my passport and a current power bill for every site that asks for this type of verification. I won't send a copy of my credit card - no way.

You could also ask the site if they have a file upload form hosted on a secure server. That way you will be assured that the transmission is encrypted and direct to the site, instead of via a bunch of mail servers.
