I promise not to do this for a living (i.e. poetry)...

Variance is my name
I've come to hurt your game
You'll know me soon enough
And it won't help to bluff

Although you're a decent player
I'm the Poker Slayer
And try as you might to put up a fight
With me you haven't a prayer

But if only you will learn
Then it is me that YOU will burn
For I lose to patience and skill
With those my venom you kill

But you must have both
To experience growth
For with Patience and Skill
Your money trays will fill

With those two traits
You'll start hitting your straights
And winning your bets
As your pairs turn to sets

But if you lack either one
My work will get done
I will search and destroy
And treat you like a Toy

So if you're playing well
But losing like hell
Just heed what I say
And in due time I will go away

But if your lack is skill
It is you I will kill
Patience won't matter at all
Without skill to break your fall

This is no fable
I will see you at the table
For I will miss no one
And hurting you is my fun!
