I like to say "sorry, wrong number" just so that I don't have to leave them wondering, 'cause if I get a hangup, I'll wonder what was up and probably call them back, so I don't want them to go through the same.

You realize your mistake when they say, "Hello?" Are you a douchebag who just hangs up or do you act like an adult and say something along the lines of, "I'm sorry, I think I dialed the wrong number..." Or is there an alternative?

[/ QUOTE ]

"Oh sorry, wrong number" of course.

The really great ones call you right back "just to make sure it wasn't them dialing the wrong number the first time" and hang up on you without a word for the second time. Now this is annoying.

I hang up, I don't care what they think of me and I certainly don't have a need to talk to them.

uh, dude, it's not about 'what they think of you'. they didn't know you existed until your mistake rang their phone and caused them to answer it.

A while back a girl rang and asked for me by name. I spent five minutes desparately trying to identify the voice and making stupid small talk, until we realised she'd dialed the wrong number and we didn't know one another. Thank God my wife didn't answer!

Now this is funny. Every once in a while I'll be confused about who's calling but after about thirty seconds I'll just give up and sheepishly ask "umm, who is this?"
