At the time it came out (83 I think?) MTV was still in its infancy and jackson was putting out 10-15 minute videos (basically short films) with characters and plots where most people in the industry were just showing the band on stage jumping around. Plus I think that video more than any other helped to promote sales of the thriller album (which is still one of the best selling albums of all time, possibly the best, not positive though). J

And I think it was voted as the #1 video of all time by some sort of reputable music critics group (or something like that)
