Default BB 2 low pair

25/50 online, 9 handed.
villain is very loose and pretty aggressive- he overvalues his medium hands and bets them accordingly. he does not bluff without a draw, except he will usually bluff a missed hand on the river.

UTG calls, MP1 calls, folded to hero. hero checks with 5 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img].

flop: 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

hero bets. utg folds. mp1 calls.

turn: 8 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

hero bets. mp1 raises. hero reraises. mp1 calls.

river: A [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]

hero checks. MP1 bets. hero calls.

why didn't you get two bets out of him on the river? He is beating you with a number of hands, but he likely paired his ace on the river giving him ONE pair. Given your description of him, I get two bets on the river.

(for your convenience, the board is: Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 5 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 8 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img])

likely hands villain could have given the action through the turn:

any 8
any 7
any 2 diamonds
A9
K9
44
A5 or A6 (to a lesser degree)

hands that are possible but less likely:

55
66 (these would probably be capped on turn- and obviously there is only 1 possible combination of each remaining)
any Q (this villain would likely raise flop with this)
Q5
Q6 (this villain would likely raise flop with these hands-but would be more likely to wait for turn than with only Q)
22,33

hands that are very unlikely:
QQ (this villain certainly would have raised preflop)
AT-AJ-AK etc (wouldve raise preflop)
straight (villain certainly would have capped turn)

if i bet the river, this villain will likely fold anything worse than a pair of eights. he is maybe 50-50 to fold an 8. he will sometimes raise w/ a lone Ace. he will usually raise with 2 pair.

if i check the river: the villain will likely bet everything, with the possible exception of: something like K8 or QT. he will sometimes bet even those hands. he will certainly bet if he has no pair.

cardsharpcook- I can't say I disagree with your comment that I need to get 2 bets on the river.
I'm not certain, but a check-raise may have been better than a check-call.

I maintain that betting out certainly would have been worse than either.
