To flip or not

This is quite early in the 20/2 180 player tourney. I haven't played a single hand yet. A short-stack (200T) goes all-in and I have 33. I called, and lost when he showed an ace crap and caught an ace. After a few hands, he pushes again this time ofcourse with 400T. I have 99, call and lose again when he shows AJo and catches a jack.

Am I wrong in calling these all-ins? The guy was playing like crap, and thought I would take a chance. Should I pass up these kind of situations early? I was not out, but I don't like being short-stacked early in the tourney.

Yeah, if you were closing the action i would definitely take a coinflip with that short of a stack.

I generally like to take these chances when it appears the opponent is going a bit nuts. It doesn't take a great hand for a stack like that to be pushing. So I'm calling both times (given there is no spectacular read). Once in awhile you'll run into big hands but more often than not they're either tilting or playing like idiots.

I really don't like shoving with 33 when a shorty pushed for a small fraction of my stack and players still have live hands. You're risking your tournament in hopes of getting a race in a small pot. Considering it's early in the tournament, I doubt the dead money in the pot is worth the risk.

The 99 hand I like the play -- you're dominating the psycho villain's range, not racing against it, and the pot is more significant to your stack.
