Any game in Las Vegas from 10/20 and down.

I've been in some tough 10/20 games in Vegas. I was playing during the day once at the Mirage during a slow time of year. The majority of hands went like this: fold, fold, fold, raise, fold, 3 bet, fold, fold, fold, fold, call. Flop: check, bet, fold. But once I picked up on the pattern, I made a little money. How about other games than Hold'em like PLO, Omaha8, Stud or Lowball?

I have limited experience but so far, I haven't seen a tight low limit Omaha/8 game. It is the nature of the beast that most people can figure out a reason to play any combination of four cards.

I was playing 3-6 Omaha/8 Hi/low with a full kill at Caesar's IN one evening and for some unkown reason, this lady (spelled FISH) would tell us why she played that hand. She played every hand so the explainations, got really creative. She would bust out, rebuy, win a big stack, bleed chips, bust, rebuy, rinse and repeat.

She raised from the BB with 7,8,9,T rainbow, six way action, bet the whole way made a straight on the river and it was good. She said "I played those because I felt like I was going to make a straight this time."

$10-20 is the highest limit I have ever played at Omaha/8 and it was loose also.

The only casino poker I've played has been low limit in Vegas at MGM, Excalibur, Luxor, and Monte Carlo. All can be good at times, but for me the Monte Carlo 2/4 has been the juciest. I also like the poker room atmosphere at the Monte Carlo better--the lower ceiling makes it seem more intimate and the dealers are friendlier. I've also won a couple of the high-hand jackpots there, which is nice.

In California, try a Friday night at any of the major LA casinos. Aim for a 4/8 game. If you walk around a little between 7 PM and the wee hours of the morning, you will eventually find the Cap Every Hand Table. Bring at least $500 and a strong stomach.

Last time I played there I got to watch the dealer try to figure out how to push me a $320 pot, in all $1 chips, into the tiny space between seats 1 and 3.

My home casino, Turning stone, in NY has fairly tight play on the lower limit games, so profitability is low. The 1-2 $100 max no limit hold'em game is pretty weak b/c there are a lot of college players who play under-rolled and are too tight pre-flop and overaggressive with drawing hands.

This is a very accurate description of california NL games as well, but I would add that there is a small fraction (perhaps 5-8%) of players at the $100NL tables who have no idea what they are doing. They happily call all in with second pair or a GS. Often they misread the board. They call any preflop raise for any amount.

There are quite a few NL 'pros' at these games who walk around seeking out these players, and then sit around with 7 other pros waiting for them to self-destruct. Not terribly interesting poker but potentially quite lucrative.

I'm glad to hear that you think the games are great there. My parents live about 45 minutes or an hour from there. I've only played 2 sessions there so far, and there were definitely some poor players, but I was card dead the whole time. It also didn't help that I was playing 1/2 online at the time and trying to adjust mentally to the higher stakes. Can't wait to play there next summer, or even over Christmas break...

Is this true? I always feared competition at Vegas. I had this notion that people played well. Am I wrong?

The key words here are "from 10/20 and down". Go higher than that and your fears, in general, will be a little more justified.
