10-20 online river bet - easy or dumb?
These 10-20 PartyPoker 6-max tables are weird. The level of play (in terms of skill, hand selection, etc.) is like the lowest of limits. The level of aggression (thin turn 3-bets, frequent river bluff raises, etc.) is like the highest of limits. Very confusing sometimes.
Anyway, here's one... I raise [ Kc, Kh ] UTG MP, Button, and SB call. ** Dealing Flop ** : [ 2s, 9h, 5d ] I bet. MP raises. Button calls. SB folds. I 3-bet. Both call. ** Dealing Turn ** : [ 2c ] How can they have a deuce? I bet, both call. I like it. ** Dealing River ** : [ 5c ] Hmmmm.... I have pocket Kings, dammit! I bet. Feel free to put my opponents on hands if you care to. You will not get it right, though. |

Re: 10-20 online river bet - easy or dumb?
Glenn and I have a running joke that a 2 or a 3 on the river at Party is considered a scare card, because they always have a hand like A2 or K3s and chase with their overcards. At stars a 2 or a 3 seems to be a safe card. So, if I ever post a Party hand and say a blank hit on the river, what I really mean is that it was an ace, king, queen, jack, or ten. . .
Bet the river and call a raise. |

Good bet. And since you said I could guess there hands, I'm gonna give it a shot. One had 76s for the gutshot, backdoor flush draw. The other had QQ. And you said I wouldn't get it.

Re: 10-20 online river bet - easy or dumb?
if these guys are so agressive, how about inducing a bluff instead? you don't get raised when you're beat, and they're gonna give you a bet with the few hands with which they would've actually folded to a river bet.

Re: 10-20 online river bet - easy or dumb?
If your KK is the best hand and you bet, you win 1 bet from each caller. On average that will probably be somewhere between 1 and 2 bets. If you check, neither of them will bluff and you'll win nothing.
If your KK is beaten by someone and you bet, you'll get raised. Then you lose 2 bets assuming you call the raise. If you check you lose 1 bet when you call. So, if you have the best hand, you gain between 1 and 2 bets by betting, but if you don't, you lose 1 bet. Considering that the chances that you have the best hand appear to be well over 40%, you should make the easy bet. This is clear cut because you are first to act. If you had the button the risk/reward would be far different. |

Re: 10-20 online river bet - easy or dumb?
I like to bet the river with my overpair when there are two pair on the board. I might be beat, but I know I'm gonna get called down by any crap ace.
