Yeah, dude. That city is in in upstate NY. And even if a player is from 'Bumfuck, Zimbabwe' I don't automatically discredit his hand.

Anyway I likely call this down.

I think the earlier posters touched on my points...

I call down with this hand. Sure looks like he has the T, but could easily have a worse A (maybe even A3, which the turn T just counterfeited for you). No way I fold it.
To me the most significant phrase in your post was "I might have folded if......" If you're doing that in other situations like this, that's a pretty serious leak.

Making a read based on his username or location (wasn't clear from your post which it was) is pretty ridiculous.

There is in fact a college in NY called Rennselaer Polytechnic Institute; near Albany. I don't know about what another poster said regarding condition of the surrounding community, but RPI itself is a top-flight engineering school. I've worked with several recent RPI grads, and they were very sharp folks. So..IF you were going to try this method of getting a read, I'd say it backfired on you. And as far as I'm concerned, serves you right. (this does assume, of course, that you did in fact lose the hand...if you won, well, good on ya! You won in spite of the irrelevant read!) Nope.

I obviously sound ignorant and bigoted. I'm well aware.

Against an unknown, I pay off his Scandanavian ass. Unless he was playing in the party poker seat that has a woman sitting at it. Or if his location had more than 1 't' in it.

I think the big question is, did he pause before he check raised? Did he wait till the timer ran down and then hit raise? If so, he was probably thinking, "He is thinking I'm from Rensselaer and am probably an idiot. I know he is thinking that, so I will check raise my A3 because I'm from Rensselaer and I have 3 pair, and nobody loses with 3 pair."

It's usually going to cost you another bet on the river to get to showdown so thats two bets to win 9 or 4.5:1. You not good here one in five times. Fold.

When was the last time that you won after getting check-raised on the Turn?

That hand? It happens lots of times. Maybe less than half the time I win, but given the money in the pot usually, it's the right play.

There is also a Rensselaer, Indiana. St. Josephs' college is there as well.
