Re: Hmm... I\'m a little lost on this river...
[ QUOTE ]
IMO check calling kinda sucks here. Make him pay to showdown his weak A. He's only rasing a high or nut spade if he's remotely sane. [/ QUOTE ] I'm really ambivalent about this hand. I don't love the check/call line I suggested, but I do want to show this hand down. I'd rather pay 1BB to see a showdown and possibly win an 11BB (after 2BB on river) pot than pay 1BB and no showdown. |

Re: Hmm... I\'m a little lost on this river...
I'd bet/call doesn't neccesarily mean it's correct but once villain raises that river there's no way i can fold the 5th best hand getting 9-1.
I don't think you can check this river though because often villain will still call your bet with a worse spade or even a non flush hand. The more i think about it the more i think bet/call is best. |

Re: Hmm... I\'m a little lost on this river...
I think this is fine. I like a bet way better than a check/call, and Villain doesn't seem like someone we want to bet/call.

Re: Hmm... I\'m a little lost on this river...
The read isn't solid it's based on 40 hands.
I really don't wanna fold this river. |

The read isn't solid it's based on 40 hands. I really don't wanna fold this river. [/ QUOTE ] Then bet/ call. That 4th spade is a very scary to villian as well. Most players need a very decent face card to raise that river. If you really don't want to fold then bet/ call. The problem with checking is that you let him showdown a weaker hand for free way more than you get him to bet a losing hand he would have folded had you bet. It is incredibly common for villians to check behind if they have a lower spade or weak A (or worse) but they'll call if you bet. Bluff river raises are very rare but if you can't fold to a raise don't. The amount you lose checking more than surpasses the amount you pay when you make that crying call IMO. |
